KEBE: Major Expansion of Central Plant and Installation of Energy Storage Station
Specific additions are underway at the headquarters and production plant of Northern Greece Ceramics (KEBE) in Nea Santa, Kilkis, following the approval of environmental terms by the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace. Specifically, the unit will expand by 126 sq.m. in total coverage and 228 sq.m. in total building area, with the addition of a two-story building for personnel services. This new building will feature a tiled roof, with the ground floor housing changing rooms, WCs, showers, and a dining area fully equipped with kitchen counters, sinks, and appliances. The upper floor will be dedicated to office spaces.
Additionally, a 24 sq.m. boiler room will be constructed. With these additions, the total coverage of the facilities will increase to 68,194.20 sq.m., and the total building area will reach 64,501.86 sq.m.
Installation of an Energy Storage Station Beyond the structural expansion, KEBE is proceeding with the installation of a battery energy storage station using LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) technology, with a maximum injection and absorption capacity of 25 MW. The station will consist of 40 prefabricated battery containers, each with a storage capacity of 2,752 kWh, along with all necessary control and protection equipment. It will also include 5 containers with bidirectional DC/AC inverters and voltage step-up transformers (0.55/33kV, 5500 kVA), a control building, a distribution network, and advanced safety and lightning protection systems.
Plant Capacity and Global Reach KEBE has been in operation since 2008. Its central facilities have an annual production capacity of 700,000 tons of bricks and 75,000,000 units of roof tiles and accessories. In 2024, the company recorded a turnover of 43.6 million euros, with 43% of production directed to the Greek market and 57% exported globally. KEBE maintains a strong international presence, supplying structural products to more than 40 countries worldwide.
